The stars of MTV's Teen Mom and 16 & Pregnant should feel proud of themselves for reaching out and helping teens make better choices. According to a new report from the National Center for Health Statistics, their efforts have paid off: Teen births in the United States are the lowest they've been in 70 years!

But are show like Teen Mom the reason? Fans seem divided. Yesterday, MTV's Maci Bookout shared the news on her Facebook page, and many followers argued that the show has nothing to do with the drop in teen births.

"Just because the teen pregnancy rate dropped, doesn't mean the show should get all the credit!" one fan wrote.

Another fan disagreed, saying, "And they said the show was gonna do damage?!....this is good to see :)"

According to Sarah Brown, CEO of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, "Young people are being more careful."

Whatever the reason — regardless of whether Teen Mom and 16 & Pregnant actually help raise awareness of the consequences of unprotected sex — we're thrilled to hear that teens are doing the right thing.

And to the teens who are proud moms and moms-to-be: Keep up the good work. We know it's not easy.
