Teen Reunited With Father 13 Years After Alleged Abduction by Grandmother
A teenager who was allegedly abducted 13 years ago in Florida by his grandmother was recently reunited with his biological father. According to ABC News, the child, whose name and gender is unknown at this time, was taken by his grandmother, Sandy Hatte, from his home in Florida while the father worked.
"The dad was working, came home from work, and [Hatte] was gone with the baby," Detective Eric Menconi of the Livingston County Sheriff's Office told ABC News. "He hasn't been able to find them since."
Credit for discovering the child was abducted goes to the Livingston County school in Missouri where 60-year-old Sandy Hatte had recently tried to register the child.
"They had some concerns about an individual who had enrolled a child into school and had some concerns if they were the actual parent," Menconi said.
The child had been moved around quite a bit, and had only been in Missouri with Hatte for about 30 days when the discovery was made.
Officials took custody of the teenager at the school on Wednesday and the reunion between father and son took place shortly thereafter.
"It was a good reunion," Menconi said. "You could tell within the first three minutes they hit it off pretty well. Since then, I've been on the phone with the dad and from what I'm understanding, it's going pretty well."
Fortunately, the article notes that the child didn’t seem to be harmed by Hatte in any way, but we are certainly glad that they were united with their father.
