Teenager Humiliated When High School Denies Entry to Prom Because Her Breasts Are Too Big
A teenager in Silverdale, Washington, told KOMO 4 News that she was initially turned away from her high school’s senior prom because of her large chest.
In what she calls a “humiliating” event, Brittany Minder says she wasn't allowed into the dance until she covered her cleavage with a shawl. Brittany complied with the school staff, but only stayed about an hour because she says she felt so self-conscious. She says that school officials "took the magic out of the night."
Central Kitsap High School’s dress code states that strapless dresses are allowed as long as “cleavage, midriff, and lower back” are covered. Brittany asserts that her gown was designed for a woman with a large bust, and in fact she traveled all the way to Canada to buy the dress that she “fell in love” with.
School staff members feel that by covering up Brittany’s cleavage, they came up with a solution that adhered to the dress code, and allowed her to attend the prom.
Outraged parents Gary and Kim Minder don’t see it that way. “Every woman is created different... you can’t compare grapefruits to golf balls,” said Brittany’s mother Kim. They are demanding a public apology from the school.
For Brittany, an apology might be too late. The disappointed teen said, “An important night of my life was ruined, and there’s no way I can get that back.”
