Teen’s Burlesque Bar Mitzvah Dance Routine Is an Amazing Way to Announce Manhood (VIDEO)
A Bar Mitzvah is a solemn occasion, commemorating the moment when a boy becomes a man.
For many tween boys, it’s also a chance to throw yourself an insanely rocking party where you, and only you, get to be the giant shining star. Nobody understands that better than Sam Horowitz, who decided to use the opening of the traditional religious ceremony to feature himself in the middle of a bevy of beautiful burlesque dancers, all of whom are busily gyrating and shimmying on his behalf.
When the video opens, we’re treated to an enormous eyeful of feathers and beads, and things only heat up from there. The group of female dancers, dressed as freewheeling flappers (of course), perform an elaborately choreographed routine, complete with sexy chair dancing.
The Dallas Observer called this opening dance number performed at the Omni Hotel last summer (but gaining popularity after recently being shared on the Jewish mom-blog Kveller) “the craziest entrance to a religious ceremony we’ve ever seen.” To which we respond: If more religious ceremonies were like this, we’d be a lot more religious!
Things get real when the dancers surround what looks like a giant floating wedding cake, only to have Sam (the Man!) pop out and join the dance. And dance he does, Sam really throws himself into the act, with some flamboyant flourishes that would make a Vegas showgirl blush. Seriously, Sam was born to entertain.
As the glitter and feathers rain down on Sam et al, we can’t help but be a little bit wistful. Sam looks so crazily happy up there on that stage, dancing away. Is this bar mitzvah going to be the best party he’ll ever attend, or will the bubbly boychick be able to top himself?
Either way, we know he’ll go forward to face the challenge like the man he now is. Dance on, Sam!
