Kanye West Tells Fan His Air Yeezys are Fake While Signing Autographs
We imagine a pair of Air Yeezy Red Octobers signed by their designer, Kanye West, would fetch top dollar on eBay. But how much would a pair of signed knock-offs go for? One fan might just get a chance to find that out.
While signing autographs in Paris, Kanye was asked to sign a pair of the limited edition designer kicks. Though Yeezy was happy to oblige, he regretfully informed the fan they weren’t authentic.
“These are not real, though, you know that?” Yeezy asked. “It’s fine though,” he added, finishing his signature. “Nope, Chinese!” said one voice off camera while another said, “Really?”
It’s unclear whether the fan had been had by a counterfeiter or was fully aware before Kanye broke the news that the shoes weren’t the real deal. Regardless, it’s pretty impressive that Yeezus can spot a knock-off so readily in a crowded mob with paparazzi cameras flashing everywhere. Okay, yes — he did design them, but that’s still a good eye, especially with how convincing designer imposters have gotten with their products over the years.
Hey, If this whole music thing doesn’t work out, maybe Kanye could pursue a career as an authenticity appraiser for one of the big auction houses?
