Last summer, Teresa and Joe Giudice were charged with 39 counts of federal fraud. Two additional charges were added this fall, and it was reported that, as a result, both husband and wife could face up to 50 years in prison each!
On March 4, the couple both plead guilty to some (but not all) of their fraud charges. So is that it? Are they both headed for 50 years of jail time? Not so fast! Because Teresa and Joe only plead guilty to some charges — and, we assume, because they have very good lawyers — neither is expected to spend that much time in jail.
The New Jersey Star-Ledger reports that, under the current plea deal, Joe Giudice will likely be sentenced to at least three years in prison. That said, his total time in prison is not expected to exceed four years.
His Real Housewives of New Jersey wife is expected to spend less than two years in prison. These numbers are not official, and sentencing won’t take place until a later date, but the Star-Ledger is quoting a source familiar with the case.
Long story short: Teresa and Joe didn’t escape the jail time completely, but their total stay is looking to be much less than it could have been. For their four young daughters’ sake, we’d say that — all things considering — this is good news.
