Grey’s Anatomy’s Tessa Ferrer Joins Extant, Halle Berry’s New TV Series

She may not have had her contract renewed for Season 11 of Grey's Anatomy, but Tessa Ferrer's (Leah Murphy) career is blasting off — literally.

TV Guide reports that the 28-year-old actress has just been cast in Extant, a new CBS drama starring Halle Berry.

As the network explains, the futuristic thriller stars Halle as Molly Woods, "a female astronaut trying to reconnect with her family when she returns after a year in outer space. Her experiences lead to events that ultimately will change the course of human history."

Tessa — who joined Grey's in Season 9 before being promoted to series regular in Season 10 — will fill the recurring role of Katie Sparks, an "over-achieving astronaut" and the daughter of the space agency director.

That director, funnily enough, will be played by Michael O'Neill — aka the guy who terrified us all as Gary Clark, the hospital shooter in the Grey's Season 8 finale.

The rest of the cast includes other familiar TV faces: ER's Goran Visnjic, The Practice's Camryn Manheim, Revenge's Hiroyuki Sanada, and The Newsroom's Grace Gummer (daughter of Meryl Streep).
