Tessanne Chin’s Debut Single, “Tumbling Down” — What Do You Think? (POLL)

Unless you’ve been caught under a rock, the crowning of Tessanne Chin during last night’s finale episode on The Voice was a tad anticlimactic. It was still filled with emotion, however, for the reggae fusion artist who once sang background vocals for well-known reggae singer Jimmy Cliff back in her native Jamaica.

Following the tradition of American Idol for the first time, the show ended with the debut of Tessanne’s single, “Tumbling Down”, which was penned by OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder. The talented musician was recently named the in-house songwriter for the show, so all eyes (and ears) were on what the single was going to be like.

"It was interesting because it's kind of a moving target," Ryan said of writing the song without knowing who was going to be singing it (although, like us, he likely suspected it would be Tessanne).

"Instead of doing the 'standing on a mountaintop, I've won everything' kind of song, we wanted to do a real song about love and heartbreak –– something that people can actually relate to,” he also said of “Tumbling Down”.

The online buzz seems to be mixed about the song, with some giving positive reviews while others have called it a bit “cheesy.” With lyrics like, “When our hearts are crushed, and we’ve come undone, I believe in us, because you’re still the one,” we can kind of see that. Regardless, we liked the anthemic feel to the choruses and the slow build of the drums. Plus, Tessanne gave it her signature reggae flair for added fun. It was also extremely touching to see her and her mom and husband so moved throughout the performance.

What did you think of Ryan Tedder’s “Tumbling Down”? Vote in our poll!

I didn't care for it.

It's a great song!
