FX Renews The Americans — We Spy a Third Season!

Good news, comrades. FX has renewed The Americans for Season 3, announcing the 13-episode pick-up in a press release today.

Currently airing its second season, the TCA Award-winning drama follows two KGB spies (Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys) who live undercover as Americans in suburban Virginia during the 1980s — even raising two children. Noah Emmerich co-stars as their neighbor, who just happens to be an FBI agent.

"The Americans continues be one of the best shows on television," said FX president Eric Schrier. "[The executive producers] have done a wonderful job delivering two seasons … Fans will be blown away by the rest of this season, and we can't wait to see what they come up with next year."

"We are so delighted and grateful," echoed exec producer Joel Fields. "The entire team at FX have been remarkable supporters and creative partners for the show — and we are blessed to have Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys, Noah Emmerich, and an awesome ensemble who bring it all so brilliantly to life."

But Americans creator Joe Weisberg — himself a former CIA officer — had the best comment of the bunch: "Seriously, if the Soviet Union had this level of support from its allies, the Cold War might have turned out differently."
