Calling Nate Hartsock a protective brother would be the understatement of the year. On Season 17 of The Bachelor, his aggressive questioning of Sean Lowe’s intentions during the Hometown Dates almost single-handedly resulted in sister Desiree Hartsock’s elimination. Although he had strong feelings for Desiree, Sean explained in his Bachelor blog, he couldn’t imagine dealing with Nate for the rest of his life.
Fast forward eight months after Nate first laid the smackdown, and Des is now The Bachelorette with four suitors remaining. In previews for the July 15 episode, we see that Nate returns just in time to mess with Desiree’s head before she departs for her own set of hometown visits. What goes down when he shows up? We turned to a Bachelorette insider to fill us in!
“Desiree knew Nate was coming,” the insider tells Wetpaint Entertainment exclusively. “It wasn’t a surprise. But even so, she was petrified. She didn’t want him scaring anyone else out of her life.” No kidding — it would be a shame to get this far, only to have the guys have a reaction similar to Sean’s.
“The first few moments between Nate and Des were pretty tense,” the insider explains. “Des had been stressed out enough with the whole process. She didn’t want Nate making it worse. She was really concerned.”
But a heart-to-heart talk set her mind at ease.
“She and Nate spoke and she realized that at the end of the day, he only wants to see her happy with a guy who’s worthy of her. He came back on the show to support her, not to cause problems. By the end of their time together, Des and Nate were in a good place.”
