We were shocked when Brooks Forester broke up with Desiree Hartsock during The Bachelorette's tearful season finale, but not gonna lie: We definitely expected him to make his triumphant return as ABC's next Bachelor.

The show has a history of recycling fan-favorites, and there's no denying that Brooks stole our hearts with his sweet personality, fragile phalanges, and ridiculously swoon-worthy hair. So, why wasn't he crowned the heir apparent to Sean Lowe’s throne? Because he turned down ABC's offer, that's why!

"You know, after watching Desiree firsthand and the process that she went through, emotionally taxing, there was some discussion early on and when they had asked me initially my response was no," Brooks admits to YourTango. "We had multiple conversations about it and they said, 'We think we're going in a different direction anyway,' so that there wasn't much to consider for me in that arena, so that decision was pretty easy."

ABC ultimately chose Juan Pablo Galavis as their next Bachelor, possibly because he's a lady magnet who literally can't stop being adorable. But let's not forget that Brooks had a few red flags... like the fact that he seemed unable to commit to marriage, and the fact that he led Des on for weeks before finally coming clean about his feelings.

We're thrilled with ABC's decision to make Juan Pabz their next Bachelor, but do you wish Brooks had accepted their offer? Lord knows his love journey would have been chock-full of tears. And hairspray!
