While we might talk smack with our friends about what the Bachelor does, wondering how he could be so cruel/slutty/bad at dancing, Chris Harrison is the real omniscient expert. The man has been hosting The Bachelor and The Bachelorette for 12 years, has had 26 different leads, and innumerable deliberation sessions with ‘em about hundreds of love interests. Which is why it’s so funny that he is baffled by Juan Pablo Galavis.

Honestly, he sends mixed messages to the girls and they find it very confusing,” he said in a TV Guide interview after JPG and 13 girls headed to South Korea on Season 18, Episode 4. He’s referring to the fact that Juan Pablo kissed both Nikki Ferrell and Sharleen Joynt before telling other girls he wasn’t going to kiss anyone at the party — telling two different stories, mind you — and then kissing Clare Crawley anyway.

“This isn't a language barrier; this is a Juan Pablo barrier,” Chris continues. “He does things like this throughout the season that really make you scratch your head. It's like, ‘You're going to make a stand now?’ It's closing the barn door after the horses are already out. Why now, after making out with the others, do you decide it's enough? So he's changing the rules in the middle of the game.”

Oh good, that always goes really well when the girls report back to each other at the hotel about what they’ve done. Or, you know, because Juan Pablo is fairly careless about kissing girls in front of others, despite Sean Lowe’s stern warning that that only leads to trouble. And the Bachelor host hints that JPG’s conflicting actions and words cause problems.

“[T]his won't be the last time Juan Pablo reinvents his rules and the women will be left scratching their heads wondering where they stand. There's a situation that's going to arise [next episode] that will epitomize this.” Could he be referring to Ms. Clare? In the Episode 5 promo, it’s obvious that Clare makes a move on Juan Pablo and that it backfires in some way.

It looks like she sneaks out and into his hotel room. The sneak peek shows them frolicking in the water, like Ben and Courtney (but more clothed), and making out. But then, at what seems to be the pre-rose ceremony cocktail party, they have a stern discussion and she ends up bawling. What changed? From what Chris Harrison is saying, nothing but JPG’s “random moral line.”
