We’re still mulling over Juan Pablo Galavis’s Season 18 and trying to decide how we feel about it. Has it been entertaining? Yes, definitely, with all the scandalous moments on an off our screens. Is Juan Pablo a hot piece to watch every week? That kind of depends on if you have your sound on… But while we’ve certainly enjoyed it, it’s definitely worth considering whether Chris Harrison and his band of brohans should let fans’ roars for the hotness of contests decide the next Bachelor or Bachelorette.

In a recent teleconference with reporters, the 12-year host of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette weighed in on that very question. “Each week, you know, you get people telling, you know… as soon as someone gets voted off I think it’s natural because we know that typically we’ll bring somebody in from this season,” Chris says of the casting process, recycling old rose receivers to do the choosing instead.

“People start rooting for — or people are already rooting for — people on the show, like Andi [Dorfman] and Nikki [Ferrell] and Clare [Crawley].” People start “cheering or jeering for these people” and producers listen to it. “We take them into account. And, you know, as producers … we want the fans for the show to essentially tell us who they want,” he explains of trying to please the millions of viewers who have watched the 27 seasons of the show.

Chris admits that Juan Pablo got the gig because of an “overwhelming response to a guy who was barely seen” on Desiree Hartsock’s season of The Bachelorette. JPG was cut on Episode 6 after being on screen for approximately 15 minutes, but did that inspire the show’s producers to keep up that sort of casting? Maybe not. After all, while Chris says fans were the ones behind Juan Pab’s picking, they haven’t been tuning in. After a strong start, ratings dropped significantly this season to series lows, with the fewest fans tuning in, ever.

Chris recently mentioned that he thought second runner-up Andi would make a “fantastic” Bachelorette. He also said that Sharleen Joynt would be “interesting” as the Bachelorette, but that the process would probably not be right for her and she might have a “tough time” with it. We vote both those girls. But if they truly want another fan favorite for the job, or if they just want an amusing season, we vote Kelly Travis and Lucy Aragon share rose-doling duties.

What do you think: should they pick someone based on fan votes, or just go with who they think is most deserving? Weigh in below!
