Sports stars have had a mixed track record over the years on The Bachelor. Season 5 Bachelor Jesse Palmer — a former NY Giants quarterback — and final pick Jessica Bowlin were only together for a few months, while soccer stud Juan Pablo Galavis had a rocky tenure, as we all know. Now, retired NFL star Terrell Owens is apparently hoping the third time’s a charm, as he is campaigning to become the show’s first-ever black Bachelor.
As part of a Hang W/ session, Terrell recorded a video in which he throws his hat in the ring to become the next official Rose Hander-Outer. Also with him as he films the video are actors Ian Ziering and Lorenzo Lamas — but who doesn’t spend their free time hanging out with Ian Ziering and Lorenzo Lamas, right? Actually, Lorenzo is a good person for a prospective Bachelor to know, since his daughter, Shayne Lamas, won Season 12.
“They’ve never had a black Bachelor — it’s always been interesting why there hasn’t been,” T.O. says to the camera. “I’ve had my share of women, so to speak,” he adds, always the gentleman. But now, he says he’s moving on to “bigger and better things” and is “looking for a special someone.” And apparently, he hadn’t mentioned anything to his celeb pals that he would be delivering this pitch, and so Ian sounds genuinely shocked.
Would the former wide receiver make a good Bachelor? He is certainly no stranger to reality TV, having appeared on VH1’s The T.O. Show and ABC’s competition show The Superstars. As for his romantic life, he hasn’t been single for long: His wife, postal worker Rachel Snider, just filed for divorce in January 2014, a mere two weeks after their wedding. But Terrell sounds like he’s willing to lay his heart on the line on the show, not to mention that it’s indeed about time for a black Bachelor.
If you ask us, Terrell is a total catch (sports pun!), so we think it would be great to see him get a chance with 25 ladies. Also, on an unrelated note, since when are Ian and Lorenzo pals? Perhaps they’re members of a club that only actors who have starred in shark-related B-movies — Sharknado for Ian, Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus for Lorenzo — can join?
