Almost a year ago, Bachelor Nation lost a beloved member of the family with the death of Gia Allemand. The beautiful yet troubled reality star — who came in third on Jake Pavelka’s season of The Bachelor, and then went on to compete in Bachelor Pad Seasons 1 and 2 — was a sweet girl who touched a lot of hearts with her selflessness, including Ali Fedotowsky, who competed with Gia on Jake’s season.

The two maintained a friendship post-filming, and nearing the one-year anniversary of Gia’s death, Ali took to Instagram to honor that friendship. The E! News correspondent posted an adorable photo of the two friends with a heartbreaking caption.

In the photo’s caption Ali writes, “One year ago today I had dinner with my friend Gia. Being the caring friend that she was, Gia encouraged me to stop eating meat so that I could be a healthier person. That conversation would end up changing my life. Here Gia was helping me live a better life when she was struggling in her own life (we would lose Gia just 10 days later). That's true selflessness.”

Gia attempted to take her own life on August 12, 2013 and passed away on August 14. She was 29.

Ali continues, “You are missed Gia. Thank you for caring, loving, and giving so much, not only to me, but to everyone who had the chance to know you.” What a lovely tribute to their friendship.
