There’s a lot that falls out of your control when you enter the Bachelor house as a wide-eyed and bushy-tailed contestant hoping to find love. Editing, for one (right, Melissa Screiber?) Who the Bachelor will fall for, obviously. And how much your every word will be mocked by the viewing public.

So why not take take extra care in the things that you can control? Aspiring bachelorettes can take note from Season 15 Bachelor alum Marissa May’s mistakes — and those of her fellow mansion mates — to avoid any heartache (fashion-induced or otherwise) not relating to competing with 24 other women for one man’s heart.

She laid out her hard-learned lessons in a recent blog post, “15 Things I Wish I Was Told Before Going on The Bachelor.” Tips include:

  • How to avoid falling over during a rose ceremony (frozen fruit and champagne!)
  • Best way to pack (trunks or garment bags?)
  • How to beat the cameras and keep your “morning face” from the world.


If anything, it makes for an entertaining read. We never tire of learning the strange customs of Bachelor Nation’s native citizens.
