UPDATE, 5/1: It's been announced that Canada's first Bachelor is Brad Smith, a free agent football player based in Toronto, reports Canada's National Post. He says he's attracted to "independent, intelligent women who are 'just as confident in a ponytail, sweatpants and sweatshirt as they are all dressed up for a night out on the town.'" Read more about Bachelor Brad (Canadian edition) here!
We don't know his name yet, but we do know Canada's first Bachelor is a Libra who gets turned on by a girl's sense of humor, loves hockey, believes he's "awesome" at trivia game shows and is already saying cheesy stuff like "I am genuinely sincere towards this process."
He's in it for "the right reasons," eh!
Even though Season 5 Bachelor Jesse Palmer was born in Toronto, Bachelorette Jillian Harris still lives in Canada and we've had several Bachelor and Bachelorette contestants on past seasons of the U.S. show, this is Canada's first experience casting its own Bachelor and an all-Canadian cast. (Sniff. Countries grow up so fast!)
The Bachelor Canada is going to announce the debut guy's name on Tuesday, May 1 and there will be an interview with him on Canada's Breakfast Television.
Until then, www.BachelorCanada.ca has been posting daily hints about the Bachelor and here's a roundup of some of the stuff we've learned so far:
What turns you on/off about a woman?
A sense of humour is a turn-on, and someone who is high maintenance turns me off!
What’s your secret skill/talent?
I am self-proclaimed awesome at trivia and trivia game shows!
How could a girl impress you on a first date?
Just by being herself – or taking me to a hockey game!
Describe your ideal woman?
Someone with a sense of humour, drive, intelligence, beauty, a willingness to go with the flow and who is athletic or loves sports.
What do you do to impress someone on a first date?
I try to break the ice and be as funny as I can. I try to make it easy for her to just be herself. And just like the previous question, I’m more impressed by personality than something extravagant. I’m a simple guy.
Why do you deserve to be Canada’s first Bachelor?
I know I am genuinely sincere towards this process. I know that the endpoint of this process – finding someone – is what I want. I feel like I’ve come a long way and deserve love.
If you had to choose, what would be the theme song to your life?
“Soldier On” by Temper Trap
If you had to cook for a woman, what dish would you make?
Seared Ahi tuna in a chilli ginger sauce, with sweet goat cheese mashed potatoes and collard greens.
Are you a dog or a cat person?
I’m a dog person.
What’s your favourite holiday?
Any holiday that involves getting my entire family together.
Vanilla or chocolate?
Vanilla, but only with brownies and hot chocolate sauce!
Read more daily countdown hints here and hope for the most dramatic debut season ever!
