Not so fast, Ryan Lochte! The Olympic swimmer told E! Online Monday night that he turned down ABC’s request to be their 2013 Bachelor. His logic: Why do someone else’s reality TV show when I can just get my own?

There’s just one problem. Bachelor producer Robert Mills says ABC didn’t even offer Ryan the gig. After seeing a tweet about E!’s article on April 23, Robert quickly retweeted the post, adding, “Uhhh...you were never offered Bachelor.”

Just in case that wasn’t clear enough, he then said, “I turned down the Olympic swim team.”

In September, Ryan told Wetpaint Entertainment exclusively that he’d been getting “a lot of offers” for reality gigs, but that The Bachelor was definitely one of the ones he was considering. In the end, Ryan steered clear of ABC and instead created an original reality series on E!, a Sunday night half-hour show titled What Would Ryan Lochte Do?

Now, judging from what he’s been saying recently, it appears that Ryan wants everybody to believe that he turned down The Bachelor in order to develop his own show. To hear Robert tell it though, it appears that Ryan only went on to his own series after The Bachelor turned him down.

Which of the two are you more inclined to believe: Do you think that Ryan ditched The Bachelor, or do you think that our favorite rose-centric reality series never even gave him the chance?
