Switzerland, Curacao, Canada, Thailand…Every season, The Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise takes us — and its contestants — to all kinds of drop-dead gorgeous destinations. And, let’s face it, besides the romance and the drama, the exotic locations are a major reason we all tune in.

So how do the show’s producer’s figure out where to go? To find out, we consulted a behind-the-scenes source, who filled us in on the process.

“There’s really no one way it’s decided each season,” the source explains. “It’s a combination of several different factors. The first: it has to be someplace the show has never been before. We’re always thinking about cities and countries we haven’t visited.”

“Second, we have to take into account whether or not it can support our entire production. Between the cast and the crew, we’re a really big group. So we can’t go anywhere too tiny or remote.”

“And then, finally, it’s just about the look and the feel. Will this place look good on camera? Does it look like something viewers haven’t seen yet. Is it romantic?”

“Again, there’s no exact process,” the source concludes. “At the end of the day, we just want it to feel exciting and different every season.”

Mission accomplished!
