Melissa Rycroft Opens Up About Postpartum Depression: “I Felt Empty”
It's no secret that Melissa Rycroft's pregnancy came as a surprise to everyone — including Melissa herself. The original winner of The Bachelor Season 13 had been on a TV roll, from sobbing as Jason Mesnick's ex-fiancee to taking third place on Dancing With the Stars Season 8, reporting for Good Morning America and co-hosting Bachelor Pad Season 1. She managed to work in a marriage to her old friend Tye Strickland, but when baby Ava made three it didn't entirely make life perfect.
“Almost immediately I didn’t feel right," Melissa tells Us Weekly (via Reality TV Magazine). "I have just given birth to this perfect baby, but absolutely nothing made me happy anymore. I had these great blessings, but I felt empty."
Mel met with a doctor who confirmed she had postpartum depression and anxiety. Expect to hear more about that, and the therapy Melissa and Tye go through on a weekly basis, on their new reality TV show, Melissa & Tye, which starts Friday, April 20 on CMT.
