UPDATE: Bachelor producer Robert Mills later tweeted that ABC “never offered” Ryan the show. In addition, a show insider tells Wetpaint Entertainment exclusively the exact same thing, and adds plenty of reasons why The Bachelor didn't want anything to do with him.
Sean Lowe better thank his lucky stars that Ryan Lochte loves having his own reality TV show so much. Because to hear Ryan tell it, ABC’s The Bachelor approached him to be the 2013 Bachelor — but Ryan says he turned them down!
The Speedo-loving 28-year-old swimmer, who currently has total 11 Olympic medals, tells E! Online’s Kristin Dos Santos that ABC wanted him to be their next Bachelor, but that he had other plans.
"They asked me if I would [do The Bachelor] or Dancing With The Stars,” he says. “And I was like, 'why don't I just have my own reality TV show, and just put it all in there myself?' Do it my own way."
The result? A bro-tastic reality series of his very own, entitled What Would Ryan Lochte Do? The half-hour long show, which premiered on April 21, airs Sundays nights on E!
Back in September, Ryan told Wetpaint Entertainment exclusively that appearing as The Bachelor was “definitely something I’m interested in.” But even then, it seems like Ryan’s biggest dream was to get his own reality show. The Bachelor would be cool, but it sounded more like his backup plan.
Are you glad that Ryan dropped out of the running for Bachelor glory and gave Sean Lowe his chance to find true love? Both men are attractive, and they each have excellent abs, but in terms of personality— these two couldn’t be more different. We’ll say this: Between Ryan’s gleaming grills, his love of partying, and all those bright colored shoes, his season of The Bachelor certainly would have had a different sort of feel to it.
