While we know that Ben was really into Courtney from the moment she stepped out of that limo in the premiere, a Bachelor insider spoke to Wetpaint Entertainment exclusively to reveal that he only had eyes for the model from that moment on, and no other girl stood a chance — not even First Impression Rose-winner and finale runner-up Lindzi Cox!
“The producers had to do everything possible to keep viewers thinking it was still anyone's game,” says the insider. “They told Ben he had to act like both women really did have a shot.”
But in reality, says the source, Courtney had his heart all along. “He didn't really have feelings for Lindzi, but he had to at least go through the motions to try and make it look like he did.” Ouch!
Poor, Lindzi. The gal just can’t catch a break in the love department, getting sent back to Dumpsville by a guy who just wasn’t that into her (and, allegedly, twice by her ex back home!).
But the heart wants what the heart wants. Even Rosemaster Chris Harrison admitted on ABC’com’s “The Bachelor After Party” that the show faced a challenge the moment Courtney stepped on the scene, that being, “How are we gonna make it look like he’s going after anyone else?”
But could viewers’ have ever imagined that Ben wasn’t interested in one of his final two? And was it fair for Ben to lead Lindzi on, even “a little bit,” as she put it? Or was the “journey” (that took her from a seasonal golf course gig to country-hopping on ABC’s dime) worth some public embarrassment and heartache?
