Back in February, Wetpaint Entertainment gave you an exclusive first look at the cushion-cut engagement ring Ben Flajnik proposed to Courtney Robertson with on the season finale of The Bachelor. Sadly, now that the couple has split, we can tell you exactly what will happen to the stunning, 3-plus carat piece of jewelry.
“The ring goes straight back to ABC,” a show insider tells Wetpaint Entertainment. “Like, immediately. Considering Courtney lives in LA, where the network is headquartered, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s already back in ABC’s hands.”
“The deal is, if the couple stays together longer than two years — whether they’re married or not — they get to keep the ring,” the source explains. “If they split any time before then, it goes back to the network. Legally, the network owns it for the first two years.”
What does the network do with it? “It depends,” the source adds. “They may see if Neil Lane, who does all the jewelry for the show, wants to buy it back from them. Then again, they may hold onto it to recycle it for another season.”
We’re not sure if a future winner would be thrilled with a hand-me-down ring, but then again, it is a stunner… no matter who’s worn it before!
