We’ve long suspected that under those abs of steel, Zak Waddell has a heart of gold. But the fine folks over at The Bachelorette don’t want us to know about his and Desiree Hartsock’s blooming romance. Why else would they have cut a scene from last week’s episode where Zak pulls out all the stops to earn a rose?

In the deleted scene, Zak confesses he’s nervous about getting picked especially since he hasn’t necessarily shone among the manpack.

“I already have a lot of feelings invested in her and today I want to see if those feelings are reciprocated,” he explains. “I really don’t feel like I’m going to make it another week unless I can do something with her and trade some kind of moment where she wants to keep me around and remember me.”

To create his moment, Zak leads Desiree to a secluded area and brings a knife…to cut the grapefruit on which he cleverly drew a goofy face and wrote a sweet note! “Thanks for yesterday. Let’s keep smiling!” Des reads aloud, smiling all the while.

You can almost see Zak restrain his fist bump to the sky.

As the Garden Boy of Our Dreams confesses his “jitters” about the whole Bachelorette process, Des goes out of her way to reassure him.

“Zak, you should know I want to get to know you more,” she says. SCORE!

And then he moves in for the kiss, while Des awkwardly holds the fruit of their love in her hand. DOUBLE SCORE!

“I finally, finally, finally kissed Desiree. I feel like gushy inside. I feel like a little kid on Christmas,” Zak says as his pecs move of their own aroused accord.

We didn’t think we’d adore this guy as much as we do, and between his gift of an antique journal during the second episode and this most recent vitamin boost we think Des is feeling the love too.
