Who knew Zak Waddell was such a poet? It may not have rhymed, but when Chris Harrison shined his special penlight on Zak’s journal and revealed the soulful words he wrote for Desiree Hartsock, we were impressed. Watch out, Chris Siegfried — you’re not the only bard from The Bachelorette Season 9.

So what did Zak’s secret message for Des say? We painstakingly transcribed it for you... because we care.

“Love is it. The only reason to open your home to a stranger. The one creature worthy of surrendering freedom. No risk is too great, no apprehension justifiable. All hope is rooted in it, because love is our only hope for happiness, and I am happy to say this is love. Zak W.”

How sweet is that? That there is the mark of a grade A, top-of-the-line Bachelor specimen if we’ve ever seen one — and you know we have. We have to wonder, might Des have changed her mind if she’d discovered his talent for blank verse? Honestly, if his country twanging didn’t win her over, we’re not quite sure what could. Girls be cray.

Oh well — Desiree’s loss is America’s incredible gain. Zak is single and ready to mingle, ladies.
