Don’t know about you guys, but at the conclusion of last night’s Bachelorette, we were in awe of ABC. In other words, once the credits began to roll, we pushed aside the wine cooler, stood up from the sofa, and slow clapped until Mistresses replaced the montage of Desiree Hartsock crying in the jungle.
ABC, you did it. You really did it. We had our doubts — heck, the country had its doubts — that Season 9 would pack a punch, but you made it happen. All the teary close-ups and amped up heartbeat audio made us feel like Brooks Forester dumped not just Des but all of America. There should be a law!
And it looks like that “dumpster fire” finale paid off (so far). TV by the Numbers reports The Bachelorette earned its highest ratings of the season last night, taking first place in the primetime market. It was a major bump for what’s been the series’ least popular installment ever. Call it a silver lining to Des’ low-hanging cloud of heartbreak.
More than seven million people tuned in last night to watch Des’ emotional train wreck. No word yet on the bump Kleenex got in sales thanks to all the sympathetic sobbing.
