When Brooks Forester made the decision to eliminate himself during the second-to-last episode of the season, a heartbroken 2013 Bachelorette Desiree Hartsock tearfully confessed that she was in love with him. Many people thought Des couldn’t just fall in love again especially on the short time left on the show. Would she even pick a winner this season at all?
But then Chris Siegfried rode in on a white horse (well, a metaphorical white horse. Des was actually the one on a horse during the episode, but you know what we mean) and he swept Desiree off her feet.
Chris proposed to Desiree during August 5’s Bachelorette Season 9 Finale, and she said yes! They are now engaged to be man and wife, but when Brooks returned for the live After The Final Rose that night, he didn’t know how everything played out. For all Brooks knew, Desiree could have not picked anyone and simply walked away brokenhearted.
So how did Brooks react upon finding out that the woman who was once so in love with him is now married to another man? Pretty well, all things considered. Brooks couldn’t have been more gracious upon hearing that Desiree was engaged.
“Oh, yeah. Congratulations,” he said before adding, “I'm not entirely surprised. I saw that in the way that Des looked at Chris, in group dates, rose ceremonies.”
For as strong as her feelings were for Brooks, it’s obvious that Des has had plenty of chemistry with Chris since the beginning. And Brooks seems to realize that. Des got her happily ever after, and now we hope that Brooks will get his own happy ending sometime in the future.
