Gia Allemand was close to a lot of people in Bachelor Nation, but she had particularly strong feelings for two guys: Season 14 Bachelor Jake Pavelka and her fellow Bachelor Pad Season 1 star, Wes Hayden. When Gia passed away after taking her own life at age 29 on August 14, 2013, both exes expressed their grief over the news.

Although we first met Gia on The Bachelor, we remember her special connection with Wes, the “bad boy” from Jillian Harris’s season of The Bachelorette. Gia and Wes got close on Bachelor Pad Season 1, dated casually after the show before long distance broke them up. When Wes heard the news of Gia’s death, he told Access Hollywood he was “heartbroken” and “at a total loss."

“I haven’t slept in probably two days. It’s horrible,” Wes told AH a day after her passing. “Anytime that you have a relationship with somebody, especially an intimate relationship and you’re great friends, it’s tough to hear about it.” Although Wes said he hadn’t seen Gia in about a year, they had texted back and forth within the last few months. “Gia was pretty sensitive. She had a great and sensitive heart… I think she really wanted to kind of step away and have like, a real life, get married… I think that’s what she was after — not necessarily the fame from The Bachelor. I think she just genuinely wanted to loved, to get married, to have a life, to have kids. I can’t believe what’s happened.”

While on The Bachelor, Gia made it to third place on Jake Pavelka’s season, though he said later that he would have picked Gia if he could do it all over again. The two supported each other on Bachelor Pad Season 2, and had a strong friendship until her untimely death. When the news broke, Jake tweeted, “I had to pull over, I can't stop crying. We have lost an angel.” He further added to People, "I am in complete shock and devastated to hear the news about Gia. She was one of the sweetest people I have ever known. And a very dear friend. My heart goes out to her family during this very difficult time. We have lost an angel today."

A memorial for Gia was held on August 17 in New Orleans. The official public visitation will be held Wednesday, August 21 from 2-5pm and 7-9pm at Papavero Funeral Home in Maspeth, NY. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, August 22 at Trinity Grace Church of Chelsea in NYC at 11 am.
