UPDATE 6/16/14: If we’re honest, Marquel Martin had us at hello. Or cookie. Maybe “hello,” but definitely when he pulled out a basket of cookies and was like “oh, please, eat all of these cookies" during the Season 10 Premiere, we were all about him from there on out. We were pretty sure Andi was into him, too, considering the man brought her cookies. But after he went on a series of group dates with the Bachelorette — never getting a solo date — Prints Charming made his exit on June 16's Episode 5.
And his goodbye wasn't just some "I'm outie" kinda thing. Before he was kicked off, Marquel got into it with Andrew Poole (who also went home on the ep). What went down? Well, the short of it is JJ O Brien told Marquel and some other guys that at the Season 10 Premiere Rose Ceremony, Andrew leaned down and said that Andi had kept "the two blackies," referring to Marquel and Ron Worrell. Marquel got deservedly emotionally about it all, saying in an ITM that he wished that the color of his skin wasn't the first thing people noticed about him, and that he was upset someone he thought was his friend would say something so derogatory.
Upon confronting Andrew, Marquel was told that the other guy would never say something like that, and seemed generally satisfied that Andrew was in the clear. Still, at the end of the night, Andrew, Pat Jagodzinski, and Marquel wiere all on the chopping block in Marseilles, France. Andi had cut the cocktail party, so with no further chance to talk to her, M-squared didn't get a lot of time to shine like the crazy diamond he is. Oh well, word is he's headed to Bachelor in Paradise and we couldn't be happier.
ORIGINAL STORY 3/17/14: Look, we’re just going to say it: it’s time for The Bachelorette to change things up, and we have the perfect way to do that. In short, Andi Dorfman should choose Marquel Martin on Season 10. The Bachelorette 2014 contestant was revealed in Reality Steve’s March 11 column, and while we don’t know a ton about him, it doesn’t take a mastermind to notice that he is super fine.
The 26-year-old is originally from Rialto, California, but he currently lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, after graduating from University of Nevada Las Vegas in 2009. His Facebook is a melange of hot photos, pics of him as a kid with his brother, a few modeling shots, and pictures of food. Um, hello perfection. According to the caption on one of his shots, the UFC sales coordinator is trying to get after his master’s degree.
Oh, and would you looky here? Almost a year ago, Marquel wrote a note to his future wife and posted it on Instagram. Basically, he says that he’s going to stop searching for a lady and let God do some work on him because he’s “full of issues right now,” and adds “BUT DON’T WORRY, when the time is right, im snatchin you up!” Let’s hope that he’s got those issues taken care of, because we have a feeling Andi doesn’t want any baggage preventing her from finding the man of her dreams.
Bachelorette 2014 Spoilers: Meet Andi Dorfman's Season 10 Contestants! (PHOTOS)
Fans of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette have noted that black contestants rarely made it very far on the show, and we’re ready for that trend to be in the past. Though the racial discrimination lawsuit brought against the franchise in 2012 was dismissed later that year, on the basis of First Amendment rights in casting, it would be nice to see a little diversity on the show. And not just with contestants who stick around in the background for a couple episodes, before leaving with little screentime (we’re looking at you, Will Reese, Dani Ronco, Chantel Forrest, et al.).
While we don’t think Andi should pick Marquel if she’s not feeling the connection, we’re happy to have him star on our own reality show. It’s called “Date a Wetpaint Editor,” and we’re now accepting Marquel’s application.
