Well, this is a total freaking bummer — thanks a lot, Arie Luyendyk, Jr.!

The super hunky Bachelorette Season 8 runner-up put a black cloud over our day on May 12 with a tweet shutting down rumors that he might be heading for the tropics this summer. “For those who thought I would do Bachelor in Paradise... I'm headed to @XGames with @GUNK as my title sponsor, no time for summer flings :),” the 32-year-old tweeted today.

The second ABC’s newest reality show, Bachelor in Paradise, was announced, we commenced crossing our fingers that the Kissing Bandit would be cast to help hone the macking skills of his fellow erstwhile contestants. But alas, with this announcement, we’ll instead have to hop a plane to Austin to see any of Arie this summer.

The race driver has been competing like a true champ recently, bouncing back from a nasty crash and broken clavicle to land on the podium just a few days later. Too bad his love life can’t say the same. (Sorry, pal, you hurt us first…) Just a few months ago, Arie confessed that ever since Emily Maynard dumped him, his love life has been “cursed.”

Elaborating, he explained, “Before the show, I was serial[ly] monogamous, and now I just can’t seem to find a steady girlfriend.” Sounds like BiP, which is rumored to be more about love than anything else, would’ve been a good place for him. Plus, with talk swirling that former bestie Jef Holm is going to join the cast, we were hoping that their bromance could be rekindled.

Alas, it seems that Arie is more into extreme sports than extreme dating these days...

What do you think about this news: Are you as bummed as we are or were you not looking forward to seeing sexy Arie in swimtrunks once more?
