Andi Dorfman’s Season 10 of The Bachelorette is certain to have a number of memorable castmembers, but 31-year-old Eric Hill made a big impression on the Bachelorette. It was a terrible tragedy for all who knew him when the adventure traveler passed away on April 23 after a paragliding accident.
The Bachelorette spoke to People about the loss of the man she got to know on the show, calling him “part of our family.” At the time of his death, Andi was filming Hometown Dates episodes all across the country. Host Chris Harrison learned of the loss and told the cast and crew about the news, saying that he “never would have kept it from them,” since Eric was a “good friend.”
Although Eric had already left the show at the time of his death, Andi says she went through “shock, devastation,” and “grief. It’s something you never could have predicted [or] expected,” adds the Atlanta girl, 27. She reached out to his family after the incident, and says she keeps fond memories of Eric’s “love for life.”
Eric was in the middle of filming a documentary called The Global Odyssey (aka GO With Eric) about his travels to all 195 U.N. recognized countries in record time. "People say, 'Oh he lived life to the fullest.' But Eric really was the epitome of someone who lived life to the fullest. This man had amazing stories and great experiences. His sense of adventure inspired not only me, but every guy in the house, every producer, every crew member. Everybody says they want to do stuff in their life, but he was really doing it."
He was paragliding in Utah with some friends at the time of his accident, when his canopy collapsed, sending him crashing into the mountainside at Point of the Mountain in Draper, Utah. He will appear in several episodes of the show, and Chris Harrison has officially said that they will dedicate Season 10 to him.
“He was a member of our cast and we had an inherent bond,” adds Andi, an assistant district attorney. “The [other contestants] shared that bond too. It was shocking and devastating to all of us and it's still a tough thing that we're going through."
We wish the best to all who knew and loved Eric in this tough time.
