Each season on The Bachelor/ette, we look forward to the Hometown Dates episode — taxidermy aficionado dads! terrifying older brothers! — but after checking out the promo for next week’s Episode 8 of Andi Dorfman’s season, we’re not sure we’re emotionally ready. The tragic death of Eric Hill was tough to stomach the first time around, but it appears we’re going to relive it all when Andi and her remaining four guys first find out.
It wasn’t clear at first whether ABC producers would choose to air the scenes where the Bachelorette and her suitors are first alerted to the tragic news, but apparently they decided to move forward with it. But before we tackle that difficult part, we have the majority of Hometown Dates to enjoy/feel secondhand embarrassment during.
As the promo shows, Andi will be putting her potential husbands through the ringer this week as she meets their families. We’ve got Josh Murray introducing his then-NFL hopeful (now signed to the Kansas City Chiefs) quarterback brother Aaron to the Bachelorette, which causes Andi to worry that “that it’s all going to be about Aaron.” (Um, girl, you’re considering marrying Josh, not his brother!)
But that’s not the gang prosecutor’s only concern — she’s also worried that Josh might be too attached to his family, and his mom doesn’t appear to set her at ease, either, admitting, “I don’t see Josh cutting the cord.” Mama’s boy alert!
The former baller isn’t the only guy giving Andi reservations — there’s farmer Chris Soules who answers Andi’s concerns about living in Iowa with the following totally non-comforting comment: “There’s an opportunity to be a homemaker.” Chris, don’t you know you’re dating a kick-ass assistant district attorney?!
We don’t see much of Marcus Grodd’s family time (bad sign?), but Nick Viall has an unexpected tearful moment with his mother while the two talk about his feels for the Dorf. Could Mr. McSalty be more of a McSofty? Sorry, we had to.
After all that, we see Chris Harrison breaking the news about Eric’s paragliding accident, and as is to be expected, it’s going to be a tough watch. All of the guys and Andi are seen breaking down, and it looks like she may not be able to stomach the rose ceremony. Prep the tissues now.
The Bachelorette Episode 8 airs Monday, July 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
