Few things aren’t preferable to cleaning up after a pet’s deposits to the booty bank — and Emily Maynard is keeping that real-life perspective in mind as she puts herself back in the spotlight on The Bachelorette Season 8. (The premiere starts tonight, Monday, May 14, 2012, at 9:30 PM!)

“Any of my friends will tell you … I do not like to be the center of attention,” Emily tells her hometown paper, The Charlotte Observer. “I don’t even like my birthday. I don’t even like people singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to me. But I just try to remind myself, ‘This isn’t gonna be forever. You’re gonna be back scooping the cat’s litter box in no time. So just enjoy it while you can.’”

Although, if her quest is successful, maybe she can get her new fiance/husband to scoop for her?

Em is originally from West Virginia, but the story says she moved to Charlotte from Florida about seven years ago. She’s such a small town girl, she’s not only getting to travel the world to see new things, she’s actually experiencing Charlotte for the first time.

“I’m a homebody, so I stay within maybe a 10-mile radius – and 10 miles is being generous – around my house,” Em says. “I’ve gotten to see things around Charlotte I’ve never seen before, so I’m learning along with the guys just how cool this city really is.”

Sometimes it’s good to play tourist in your own town, seeing things you wouldn’t when you just drive to the store and back on the same loop. But it’s even better when you can play tourist in places like Bermuda, London, Dubrovnik, and Prague!
