Emily Maynard has certainly gotten schooled in the ways of love on The Bachelor Season 15 and The Bachelorette Season 8. The southern blonde came out of both reality TV runs with a massive engagement ring on it, but neither fiancé stuck. (Your loss, Brad and Jef.)
But when it comes to actual higher education, does Em have a college degree in something less practical, like film studies or history?
The short answer is no, Emily didn’t go to college. The long answer is that Emily got engaged to NASCAR driver Ricky Hendrick when she was 18 (she’d known him since she was 14), and she gave birth to their daughter Ricki in June 2005, when she was only 19. Emily found out she was pregnant just one week after Ricky died in a plane crash on October 24, 2004.
Being a single mom didn’t really lend itself well to finding time to go to college, and she was fortunate to be able to lean on Ricky’s wealthy parents for support.
Not long after his son’s untimely passing, Ricky’s father, Rick Hendrick, told Scene Daily, “Emily came over to the house the night after the memorial service and told us [Hendrick and his wife, Linda] she was pregnant. At the lowest time of our life, it was like a miracle that happened for us because we get a chance to have a piece of Ricky left. I can’t describe how happy and how excited we are. We can't wait to see that baby’s eyes. When she told us, it was hard to even believe. It was like God had given us back something. We had lost so much.”
