The Bachelorette Season 8 suitor Jef Holm has already explained his beliefs — off the show.

During a conference call earlier in the season, Jef said, “I was raised Mormon. And my family is still Mormon. My parents are serving in a Mormon mission as Mission presidents in South Carolina.  And I was raised with the standards of Mormonism in the church. [...] And I'm just not practicing right now.  [...] I mean, faith is something that's a huge priority on my list and in my life. And I'm really active, you know, in church and everything.  I'm just not active Mormon."

Jef and Emily Maynard haven't really talked about their specific belief systems on The Bachelorette but, as fan Nancy French pointed out, last night Jef may have referenced The Book of Mormon when declining Emily's invitation to spend the night in the fantasy suites.

“There’s a time and a place for everything,” Jef said. “And right now is a time for us to bridle these passions.”

One source for that bridling passions statement is The Book of Mormon’s Alma 38:12 — “Use boldness, but not overbearance; and also see that ye bridle all your passions, that ye may be filled with love; see that ye refrain from idleness.”

So, maybe his background with the LDS Church came out in a subtle way. Or maybe he read that somewhere else. Or maybe he just pulled the statement out of his hair. Either way, it’s a good quote.
