Bumps in the road are normal for any couple, famous or not. But most don’t usually have to deal with accusations – made by a family member and an ex-girlfriend, no less – that one of you has been cheating by sexting with someone else. Add to that the fact that the allegation was splashed all over the cover of a national magazine and you’ve got enough stress to kill a budding romance.

But Emily Maynard and Jef Holm say they’re anything but on the verge of a split. In fact, Jef even joked about the scandal with Wetpaint Entertainment when we caught up with him at Benefit’s “Beauty Best…Or Bust” event for Fashion’s Night Out at Macy's in NYC on September 6. “The only person Emily sexts is me,” Jef told us while his fiancée, only a feet away, was getting primped. When she finished, we had the chance to speak with both of them about how they’re coping in the wake of his brother Mike’s shocking claim that Emily cheated.

Wetpaint Entertainment: How are the two of you doing with all this?
Emily: People always ask us “What about this?” or “What about that?” But I think our actions speak louder than anything. He’s my best friend and we’re together all the time. That’s my mentality. People are going to say things no matter what, but I think time will show it doesn’t mean anything.

Are you worried people now think there are cracks in the relationship?
Jef: I don’t want anyone to have this image that we’re this perfect couple, you know. We’re people and we’re striving to do our best. But we’re like anyone else in the word, we’re not perfect. But we’re happy, we’re extremely happy.
Emily: Right, we’re figuring it out. We’re just figuring it out.

Jef, your brother Mike was the one who made the claim Emily was sexting someone else. Does that hurt?
Jef: Unfortunately, being in the position Emily and I are in, it sometimes brings out the worst in people. I don’t know why. I don’t understand why some of the things that were said got said. But it’s interesting to see what family and friends will do to see their name in a magazine. It’s sad. But Emily and I, we’re supportive of our family and friends and at the end of the day, we’re in a really good place.

Emily, when I was talking to Jef earlier, he said the only person you sext is him
Emily: (Laughs) Did he really? Oh, great!
