What do you do after winning The Bachelorette? If you're Emily Maynard and Jef Holm, you take a trip to Ghana to visit the wells that People Water, Jef's company, has funded — and the couple, now back from their week in Africa, dished to PEOPLE on their adventures abroad.
Jef explained that the pair spent a week touring Ghana visiting villages that have just received fresh wells, averaging about two villages a day and spending some time with the residents of the village. "We visited the villages," he explained, "[and] met and celebrated with the people who will be drinking from the wells and played with the children."
For her part, Emily explained that she told Jef that she wanted to go on a mission trip the first night they met on The Bachelorette. "I didn't know what he did at the time," she said, "and it turns out they were planning one at the end of July."
And while Emily's daughter Ricki stayed at home, it's no surprise to hear that Emily shifted naturally into the role of caretaker during her stay: "It wasn't enough for her to just show up with the People Water crew and sit on the sidelines," Jef said. "She brought the biggest suitcase I've ever seen full of dolls, toys, books and bubbles for the kids in every village. Emily was by far the most loved person on the trip."
