After what feels like a full year of back-and-forth rumors/denials, spoiler king Reality Steve has declared that The Bachelor Season 15 winner Emily Maynard will be The Bachelorette for Season 8.

Brad Womack’s ex-fiancee made it clear last summer that she did not want to be The Bachelorette, but Steve speculates in his new blog that it may have changed Emily’s mind to have production move at least in part to her hometown of Charlotte, NC, so she can be near her daughter, Ricki. (Hey, if Ben Flajnik can have an early hometown date, why not Emily?)

Steve’s spoiler post follows Life & Style’s report back in December, saying Emily as Bachelorette was basically a done deal and she was “fully on board.” We had one eyebrow up at that because Emily had previously said she didn’t want the gig, but her Twitter silence after that report got us wondering.

“I don’t think the news of Emily being the next Bachelorette is all too earth shattering considering many other outlets have definitely been speculating it’s gonna be her, but there’s been no official word. And when stories say it’s true but follow it with quotes of, ‘sources say,’ ‘insiders close to Emily,’ and ‘friends of hers,’ it’s tough to know what to believe. I’m sure the official announcement is coming soon since announcing Emily early will no doubt drum up interest from men around the world. But she is going to be the next Bachelorette with filming scheduled to begin in March like the last four seasons of the Bachelorette has.

Before we get into the why and how of all this, I think one thing that might ease a couple people’s mind regarding Emily’s decision to change her mind comes in the fact that they are moving locations for filming for the first time in about 10 seasons. The show will be shot in Charlotte, North Carolina. Of course at some point, I’m sure they will take off and head to different locations, but I’m guessing they’re going to spend a good amount of time filming in North Carolina. Makes sense. My guess is that was a huge selling point for Emily, especially with a young daughter that she’s been adamant about protecting ever since Brad’s season.

What do you think? Are you happy at this spoiler? Are you frustrated with Emily for insisting she didn’t want to be the Bachelorette — and getting fans mad on her behalf at all the rumors? Were you pulling for one of Ben Flajnik’s bachelorettes to get the gig instead? Are you going to stay skeptical until official news comes out?
