The Bachelorette Season 8 finale has come and gone, as has Emily Maynard’s engagement to Jef "Hipstamatic" Holm. But before their relationship hit the skids in October, Jef and Emily melted our hearts with their adorable love each and every week this past spring.
However, were they doomed from the start? Was he Em's second choice?
Before the July 22 finale, a source told In Touch that the guy who won — Jef — did so “by default,” adding that one of the final two stone-cold rejected Em at the last minute. Of note: The article never mentions the name of the guy who walked away. “He said, ‘I don’t think we know each other nearly enough to even be entertaining this; I don’t think we should get engaged.’” Whoa there. This can't be true, can it? Last time we checked, Arie Luyendyk Jr. was completely obsessed with Emily and had already “volunteered as tribute” to make a million babies with her.
According to In Touch's source, Emily was “crying and begging him to reconsider,” and even sobbed, “You’re the one I want to pick” as the dude walked off into the sunset. Em must have gotten over the heartache pretty quickly, because she giddily accepted Jef’s proposal.
All kinds of crazy things go down on (and after) The Bachelorette, but we’re still taking this story with a grain of salt. Emily doesn’t seem like the type to use someone, and there’s no way Jef would’ve settled for sloppy seconds. Plus, Arie would’ve never betrayed Emily!
