Ryan Bowers on Being The Bachelorette Villain — and Who He Wants Emily to Pick

Ryan Bowers doesn’t seem to be doing the usual ABC exit interview this week — they are letting Jef Holm promote Bachelorette Season 8, Episode 7 instead, like Sean Lowe and Arie Luyendyk, Jr., before him — but Ryan talked to the local ABC station in Augusta, Georgia, about his "villain" edit, why he really ended up saying anything at all about being The Bachelor, and one guy he thinks might be right for Emily Maynard.
Here are some highlights from Ryan's full Q&A:
Why he said he hoped whoever was editing the show would portray him fairly: “Because, I knew the way I was being asked questions and stuff, I knew that I talked a lot about my faith, about who I am as a man in my faith and how God has really impacted my life and they did show some of that. So, I think if you took a look at what I saw, you see this dichotomy, you see one side you see me talking about my faith and stuff and then the other side you see someone who is cocky and arrogant. So, some of that is hard to watch because I know that when I was saying some of the things I was saying, I was talking about my faith.”
Does he think he was portrayed fairly? “They were fair at times and unfair at times. Whenever you see me being extremely confident in something completely different than what’s being portrayed at that moment. But, it’s a character, a fictitious character at times that’s entertaining. Even friends that know me say, ‘Man I hate that you were portrayed that way, but I don’t know what we’re going to do now that you’re off the show because you were hilarious. [...] I think you saw bits and pieces of who I really am. The first two episodes they allowed me to be myself and as we pushed forward to episodes three and four, they really wanted me to be this villain.”
On the other guys in the house agreeing he's not always the way he appeared on screen: “I talked to some of the guys today (Tuesday) and they were like man that’s not how it went down. It was more or less Jef and Arie playing into that. We would always talk about me being an extremely confident guy and how funny some of the things I would say would be, just because most people are not going to say some things so confident.”
Why he talked about being The Bachelor: “I was told by them [ABC producers] ‘Look if this thing doesn’t work out for you, which we think it will’ which I was more interested in… ‘I don’t want to be The Bachelor you guys, I would love for this thing to work out, what an awesome story.”
Would he change any of his actions, now that he's watched the show back? "I don’t think so. I think maybe I realized how she would take some comments, maybe I would feel a little differently about her, because I want someone that I can be playful with…If I could become the villain, the guy that didn’t want to talk about anything negative on the show, then anyone can become the villain.”
Does he think Em will find her happy ending? "I don’t know. I watched last night and I remember walking away that evening and thinking that if she truly desires to have they type of man she talked to me about wanting…then I just don’t know. There’s a couple of really good guys that are left on that show right now and there are some people I would love to see her with, Sean being one of those guys.”
