A big part of why we love The Bachelorette is that it gives us the chance getting to know a gaggle of new hot guys, and this time they’re all vying for the lovely Emily Maynard’s affection! We’ve identified some early front-runners — like Dutch-born car racer Arie Luyendyk, Jr. and hipster philanthropist Jef Holm — but what about some of the dark horses?
Meet Jean-Paul LaCount, northern California native (don’t let the French name fool you).
When ABC divulged that Jean-Paul’s a marine biologist, they only scratched the surface of this guy’s varied interests. True, he earned a B.S. in Marine Biology/Ecology from San Diego State University in 2000, but he also hobbies as a wildlife and travel “documentarian” who’s travelled the world, particularly Southeast Asia. According to Jean-Paul’s ABC interview, the travel bug bit him one day and three weeks later, he embarked on a 6-month globe-trotting journey. We’re going to say that Jean-Paul’s impulsivity and adventurous spirit earn him instant hot points. If that doesn’t do it for you, check out these pictures he shot of wild butterflies. Kind of adorable.
But Jean-Paul isn’t all big dreams, butterflies and wanderlust. He makes his living consulting with environmental strategy firms and poring over analytic data for nonprofits and educational organizations. Way to make a living while also making the world a better place — we like him already! But it’s Emily you really have to win over, Jean Paul.
