After the 19 remaining competitors for Emily's heart move into a Charlotte mansion, one of them gets the first one-on-one date: a concert by the country band Gloriana. Thirteen others perform with "Sesame Street" Muppets and Emily to raise funds for a local hospital. There's also an altercation between two of the guys that almost comes to blows, and a one-on-one date at a resort Emily remembers from her childhood. After the rose ceremony, 16 contestants are left.

Emily’s journey begins in her hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina, where she lives with her six-year-old daughter, Ricki. After saying “good night” to Ricki, Emily arrives at asouthern mansion where she meets her 25 potential soulmates who have traveled across the country. They include a biology teacher, a mushroom farmer, a marine biologist and a ex-professional football player. Emily is nervous, but her anxiety slips away and soon turns to laughter as a single dad produces a glass slipper and proclaims her a princess; a youthful entrepreneur swoops in on a skateboard; a party MC shows off his dance moves; and a southern gentleman brings something special that symbolizes his dedication to protecting her and Ricki. The surviving contestants must team up and compete as couples, beginning with a Nearly Wed Game challenge, in which they are tested on how well they know each other.
The housemates plot against the power couple, while one of the new guys emerges as the least popular person in the pad. Also: everyone takes part in a kissing challenge to determine who has the best lips.
As the guys and gals face a synchronized-swimming challenge, Jake finds (and Kasey and Vienna lose) allies. Meanwhile, Melissa gets mad at Blake, and the formerly affianced Michael and Holly share what might be a defining moment in their relationship.
The challenge: "Target on My Back." Gals throw paint-soaked balls at guys they want thrown out of the Bachelor Pad (and vice versa). Kasey and Vienna target Jake. Eighteen onetime Bachelor and Bachelorette contestants (estranged 2010 Bachelor couple Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi among them) move into the franchise's Malibu mansion to vie for a cash prize and, perhaps, to find romance. The challenge in the opener: "The Hook Up." Couples suspended 10 feet above ground must cling to each other, with the couple clinging the longest being spared from facing elimination, a fate that will befall one guy and one gal. A flash mob and a comedy roast that scalds the Bachelorette are among the highlights as Ashley cuts the field from 15 to 12. The mob appears at an open-air L.A. mall, where Ashley and her date are dancing. And the roast is at L.A.'s Comedy Store, where one guy acts childishly and another cruelly. Then comes the first cocktail party, at which one contestant sings to Ashley, another introduces her to his mother (by speakerphone) and a third, alas, takes the "cocktail" part of the party too seriously.
