The Bachelorette: Did Producers Tell Nick to Shame Andi? He Says.... (VIDEO)

Sorry Nikki Ferrell, but it looks like ABC producers won't be taking the heat for the awkward and (according to some) "classless" display that went down on July 28's "After the Final Rose" special of The Bachelorette. While the current girlfriend of Juan Pablo Galavis insinuated that Nick Viall was pushed by the higher ups to call Andi Dorfman out on their Fantasy Suite date, the Midwestern fella is copping full responsibility in a new interview.

Andi and her new fiancé, Josh Murray, went on a whirlwind press tour Tuesday following the dramatic finale, acting all, “I’m in love, I’m in love, and I don’t care who knows it!” But while that pair of Atlantan hotties got their turn to be simultaneously adorable and gross, McSalty Nick also had a turn in the hot seat to explain his actions from the “ATFR” live airing — specifically, that “If you didn’t love me, why did you make love with me?” comment.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Nick revealed that he was just as surprised that he let that omission slip during his confrontation with Andi. Though he admitted that he could have worded things better, the 33-year-old explained that, for him, it was more about the “intimacy” than the sexual nature of that overnight date. That being said, Nick did lay some of the blame on his Bachelorette ex, dishing that he was “emotionally-charged” when Andi came out to join him, and he was taken aback by her “cold” demeanor when she stated that she wasn’t in love with him.

All that being said, the words that came next were nobody but Tricky Nicky’s fault himself. “Would producers have encouraged you to ask that question?” interviewer Nancy O’Dell asked, to which Nick quickly responded, “Would they have? They certainly didn’t. I take full responsibility for my actions and words.”

In fact, the producers were apparently as taken aback as we were by Nick’s shot heard round the world. “I came out afterwards and they were like…they were as surprised as anyone.” And lest you think that this was all pre-planned by the jilted man himself, he insisted that that’s not the case. “Who goes on live television expecting to drop that bomb?”

Who indeed! Oh, Nick. We really want to root for you, buddy, but maybe a little quiet introspection — versus Good Morning America tell-all interviews — would do you some good in the moving on department.

What do you think about Nick’s revelation — do you believe him? Sound off in the comments below.
