From the moment we saw The Blacklist’s Agent Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone) discover her husband, Tom’s (Ryan Eggold) secret stash of passports and a gun, we’ve known that there may be way more to her sweet, personable husband than meets the eye. First of all, who has a set of passports that all have different names? And if they weren’t such a secret, why would he hide them under the floorboards of his house? We’re not entirely sold on the fact that the box was planted there for Lizzie to discover, either.

But the mysterious box’s existence and origins aren’t the craziest part. What about the fact that the scar on Lizzie’s face matches the crazy Y-shaped pattern on Tom’s box? There has to be a connection there. Here what we’ve come up with so far:

It has to do with why Red is so interested in Lizzie. Red obviously knows a lot about Lizzie’s past — possibly more than she even knows — and we’re wondering if maybe the scar has a hidden meaning for Red (and maybe even other criminals). He does seem to know the secret that Lizzie’s father, Sam, wanted to tell her before he died, so we wouldn’t be surprised if it had to do with the reason Red will only deal with the FBI through Lizzie. This would connect Red to the box, too — and could be why he isn’t fond of Tom at all.

It all has something to do with her father. Lizzie calls it a “gift” from her father, given to her in a way that wasn’t meant to hurt her — yeah, this definitely has to do with the sketchy secret her dad took to the grave with him. We have a feeling that however the scar happened, it wasn’t an accident.

It’s supposed to protect Lizzie — and Tom might be in on it. Whatever criminal circle Sam ran in, we’ve got a feeling they all know what that “Y” shape means — and that Red is in on it, too. Maybe it’s a code that keeps her safe, and the pattern on the box signifies that the items in the box are also keeping her safe, and Tom is a part of that. We’ve got a feeling Tom is more bad than good, but we’re keeping our options open!
