With the premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire — which follows Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Co. as she navigates the Quarter Quell — just days away from its premiere, the reviews are starting to pour in from critics around the world. The results: Many believe the sequel is knocking the socks off its predecessor.
While the majority of critics are bowing down and worshiping at the altar of J.Law, there are some critics out there that are raining on the parade. If you check out Rotten Tomatoes, Catching Fire is “Certified Fresh” at 93 percent positive reviews. Out of the 73 reviews so far (as of November 20), there are only five negative reviews.
So while we know you’re excitedly anticipating your chance to enter the arena and battle to the death once again, check out what these five haters had to say and see if you agree with them after the big day:
“Enough is enough. One good thing: The jungle scenes were shot in Hawaii, so at least they all got a paid vacation.” — Rex Reed, New York Observer
“While nothing is more dramatic than the change at the core of this film - Katniss' move from survivor to leader - it's not enough, on its own, to comfortably sustain a two-and-a-half-hour film.” — Stephen Whitty, Newark Star-Ledger
“A chatty, 90 minute fashion show followed by a 50 minute (recycled) action picture.” — Roger Moore, McClatchy-Tribune News Service
“The fans won't mind but the film feels overlong, the emotional curve fails to ignite and the ending is anticlimactic. Jennifer Lawrence is this sequel's greatest asset.” — Louise Keller, Urban Cinefile
“A ho-hum sequel that mostly sets the stage for hopefully more scintillating future chapters.” — Tim Grierson, Screen International
