He may play the mysterious and somewhat nefarious District Attorney Alec Rybak on The Lying Game, but Adrian Pasdar is about to get a major political upgrade in the upcoming USA network mini-drama, Political Animals.

According to TVLine, he’ll be playing Paul Garcetti, recently elected President of the United States. He hires Sigourney Weaver’s Elaine Barrish (an ex-First Lady and his electoral rival) as his Secretary of State. IMDB reports that the six-episode arc will start off focusing on Elaine’s dubious bond with a Capitol Hill journalist (played by Carla Gugino), who built a career on dragging her name through the mud.

The series will also star Ellen Burnstyn as Elaine’s mother, James Wolk (Happy Endings) and Sebastian Stan (Gossip Girl) as Elaine’s twin sons, and Brittany Ishibashi (Ghostfacers) as the fiance to James’ character.

So what does this mean for Adrian’s Lying Game character? Not to worry, Game-rs: Our favorite show isn’t slated to begin filming until this summer for a winter return, so presumably Adrian would have wrapped on Political Animals by then.

Political Animals begins its six-episode run on Sunday, July 15, at 10/9c on USA.
