Even without Ian Somerhalder’s signature snark, The Originals is proving to deliver some extraordinary writing, giving the Mikaelsons and Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) some of the greatest one-liners in all of Tuesday night television.

Tonight’s episode proved that The Originals can deliver a masquerade that can rival Caroline’s (Candice Accola) decade dances on The Vampire Diaries. We saw Rebekah (Claire Holt) join forces with Klaus (Joseph Morgan) in attempts to twart Marcel’s vampiric regime. For Rebekah, that meant going behind former flame Marcel’s back and inviting his crush, Cami (Leah Pipes) to the vampire shindig.

This episode saw a lot of family ties put to the test, even starting with Elijah’s (Daniel Gillies) written monologue to Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin), describing how he wanted to save his siblings. Elijah wouldn’t have been pleased with everything that happened during tonight’s episode, but one thing is for sure: we need a witch translator pronto!

Hayley: "The plan to rescue Elijah, you know, the good brother who is the one who is now in possession of your mortal enemy after you stabbed him in the back."
Klaus: "In the front, if we’re being specific."

Rebekah: "Klaus may be a miserable excuse for a sibling, but there is none more diabolical."

Wolf in sheep’s clothing

Klaus: “Well don’t be fooled, love. I’m the devil in disguise.”
