It’s pretty much a safe bet that The Originals, the CW’s Vampire Diaries spin-off, will get a full-season order from the network — but will it get a Season 2?

If the freshman series keeps its ratings steady, then we see no reason why the CW wouldn’t renew it for a second season. The Originals currently averages a 1.0 rating in the coveted 18-49 advertizing demo, and 2.1 million total viewers. The most recent episode (Episode 5: “Sinners and Saints”) matched its series high with a 1.1 in the demo! While that’s a bit softer than its predecessor, The Originals is not only the network’s most successful new series, but it’s also beating sophomore series The Carrie Diaries and Beauty and the Beast in the demo!

CW president Mark Pedowitz recently told The Wrap, “‘Originals’ has performed quite well in comparison to how ‘The Vampire Diaries’ was. I believe over time it’ll be a stellar performer.”

If the president of the network thinks it will be a “stellar performer” over time, then that means they’ve already considered its longevity.

At this point, The Originals is definitely heading toward a second season renewal, so rest easy, fang fans. Klaus and Co. will most likely be back next season with even more supernatural drama in the bayou — and if we’re really lucky, even more opportunities for another Vampire Diaries crossover!

What do you think, Originals fans? Are you excited the TVD spin-off is a success? Sound off in the comments!
