Most television actors have trouble finding one successful television program to star in. The OriginalsDaniel Gillies (Elijah Mikaelson) has two! His other show, Saving Hope, has just been picked up for a third season in Canada. This is awkward. Are we going to have to go to war with Canada over Daniel Gillies?

Saving Hope (Daniel Gillies' Canadian TV show) was picked up for a third season, meaning every writer at #TheOriginals just groaned,” ETonline’s Jarrett Gieselman tweeted on November 7, in what was likely an accurate prediction of The Originals’ creative team’s reaction.

At this point, it’s hard to say how and if Daniel will try to pull double duty as a series regular on two separate television shows. (Though The Originals hasn’t technically been renewed for a second season, it seems likely.) So far, it has worked out because of lucky scheduling and Klaus’ dagger to Elijah’s heart, but its seems unwise to use either of those strategies as a longterm solution. Especially as Daniel also happens to be a new father. We’re sure he wants the chance to see his kid every once-in-a-while.

For those who think Saving Hope sounds familiar, the first season actually aired on NBC last summer before it was pulled. It has obviously enjoyed much greater success in Canada. CTV has ordered 18 episodes for the show’s third season. Poor, Daniel Gillies!  Although, we suppose it’s a good problem to have: having to choose between two television shows — though we’re OK as long as he chooses The Originals.

The Originals airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
