Great news, Originals fans! The Mikaelsons are extending their stay in New Orleans.
The CW has picked up The Originals, the Vampire Diaries spin-off starring fan favorites Joseph Morgan, Claire Holt, and Daniel Gillies, for a full season, reports TVLine. This news isn't too surprising, since The Originals has been performing solidly in the ratings. In fact, the freshman series has even been close to matching its predecessor.
If the freshman series keeps its ratings steady, then we see no reason why the CW wouldn’t renew it for a Season 2. The Originals currently averages a 1.0 rating in the coveted 18-49 advertizing demo, and 2.1 million total viewers. The most recent episode (Episode 6: “Fruit of the Poisoned Tree”) scored a steady 0.9 in the demo, down slightly from its series high of a 1.1. While that’s a bit softer than its predecessor, The Originals is not only the network’s most successful new series, but it’s also beating sophomore series The Carrie Diaries and Beauty and the Beast in the demo!
CW president Mark Pedowitz recently told The Wrap, “‘Originals’ has performed quite well in comparison to how ‘The Vampire Diaries’ was. I believe over time it’ll be a stellar performer.” That sounds pretty promising to us!
But The Originals isn't the only new series to get a full season. The CW has also extended back-nine orders to fellow freshman dramas Reign and The Tomorrow People.
